The prospect of a joint promotional campaign for the area of Athos was discussed in Brussels between representatives of the low-cost airline company Ryanair and Athos Mayor, Christos Pahtas, given that – according to data recently published – over 8 out of 10 passengers of the airline (85%), travelling via Thessaloniki, eventually end up in Halkidiki.

The discussion to lay the groundwork for a joint campaign was launched on occasion of the participation of Mount Athos Area Organization and Aristotle Municipality in Salon Des Vacances international expo (February 2-6) in Brussels, as exhibitors at the main GNTO stand.

The stand presented the multifaceted tourist product of the area, ideal not only for summer holidays, but also for specialized forms of tourism, such as pilgrimage and cultural tours, hiking and biking trips, monuments and archaeological sites, but also gastronomic and oenological tourism.

According to an announcement issued by the Organization “the Belgians showed particular interest, discovering that an emerging destination can offer a competitive product, compared to that of Greek islands, which for monopolized their preferences for decades”.

Throughout the exhibition, guests were offered an authentic monastic menu, based on the diet of Mt. Athos, leaving those who tasted it with positive impressions.
