On Sunday, the Greek Community of Zurich successfully presented a tribute to innovative Greek composer and writer, Iannis Xenakis, at “Agios Demetrios” cultural center.
The three musicians who performed – Moritz Melenbach (cello), Genevieve Kamenis (viola), and Matteus Sospovski (violin), were applauded with enthusiasm, even though Xenakis’ work is considered to be inaccessible, while the three speakers, Maria Stergiou, Lambrini Piki and Zoi Tsokanou, presented the life, architectural and musical work of the great Greek and contributed into making the composer’s means of expression more easy to understand.
The event was held in German, in order to – as it was stated by the Greek Community public relations manager, Stamatia Sterkoudi – attract Swiss people who do not speak Greek.
The evening was concluded with the screening of a documentary by Efi Xirou, titled “Charisma X”, presented for the first time in Switzerland.
