This year’s 4th Oceania Panhellenic Games contributed in boosting national pride, in a period when Hellenism is sensing the economic crisis in our homeland and beyond.

Youths of Greek origin participated, from September 29th to the 2nd of October 2011, in Oceania Panhellenic Games 2011, an established event launched by SAE Oceania Region, proven to be a major success and a link connecting our youth in Oceania.

The Games in Darwin were organized by the Local Greek Orthodox Community of Northern Australia, in collaboration with other Greek organizations of the city and the undivided support of the state government and business world, with a special contribution on behalf of the Greek tycoon of the city and President of Kalymnos Fraternity, Mr. Yannis Halikos.

Over 400 athletes from Australia gathered in Darwin and in the spirit of Olympic sportsmanship, offered a Greek essence to the four – day Games held in the beautiful city of the North.

In the presence of officials from Darwin and not only, the athletes competed with ethos and passion, and were honored accordingly, in the games serving as an opportunity for new friendships between athletes and fostering the creation of new cores for the Hellenism of Oceania in the future.

On behalf of SAE Oceania Region, Coordinator Mr. George Angelopoulos, thanked the Athletes and coaches, the President of the Steering Committee and Greek Orthodox Community Chairman, Mr. Giannis Nikolakis, members of the local Community, Event Organizer Mr. Nikos Poniris, members of the Central Steering Committee, State Organizing Committees, members of SAE Oceania, Paul Henderson’s state government, Panhellenic Games sponsors in Australia, Greek media, all those who supported the Games, volunteers and the broad audience who attended the events, while he also underlined the significance of the games for Hellenism in the Australian democratic environment.
