Canada: Ioannis Dagonas, new SAE Coordinator for Canada Region
Thessaloniki08.06.2011

Ioannis Dagonas was elected SAE Canada Region Coordinator, following Costas Menegakis’ resignation, as a consequence of his election to the Canadian Federal Parliament. Mr. Dagonas’ election was unanimously agreed during the SAE Canada Region Coordinating Council meeting. He was a member of the Council since the establishment of SAE Canada.

Ioannis Dagonas was born in Mytilene in 1948. He migrated to Canada in June 1966, where he permanently lives until today. He is a graduate of Ryerson University Polytechnics School, Civil Engineer Department and the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. For over 35 years he was active in the sectors of construction, beverage bottling, conference centers, receptions and catering, and he is now considered one of the most important Greek Diaspora businessmen and philanthropists, according to SAE Canada. In 2002 he was declared Archon Maistor of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Among other things, he has served as President of the Greek Heritage Foundation, the Greek Canadian Federation of Ontario and the Aegean Islands Federation, Director of the Greek Congress, the Greek Home for Senior Citizens, West Park Hospital and Socrates and Mississauga schools. For the past two years he has been leading the effort of the Hellenic Hope Center for the construction of a greater and modern centre for people with special needs, over the age of 21. Over the past few months, after a relevant appeal by members of the Greek Community Board of Toronto, he has been participating in the Committee for the Economic Rationalization of the Organization.
