The President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, Mr. Stefanos P. Tamvakis, on invitation from the President of the Association for the Support of Greek Community Institutions, Mr. Lakis Vigas, visited the Greek community of Istanbul.
During a meeting with members of the Coordinating Committee of the newly established Association, the President of SAE, was informed by Mr. Vigas on the objectives that have been set, especially in regard to the use of minority educational buildings towards cultural and other needs of the Greek Diaspora. On his part, Mr. Tamvakis assured that he personally, and SAE, are on the side of the Greek Community of Istanbul.
During his stay in Istanbul, Mr. Tamvakis attended, Divine Liturgy, at the Church of Agia Paraskevi, Therapia, officiated by the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness, Bartholomew, on the occasion of the temple’s anniversary, completing 150 years in operation and the conclusion of renovating activities.
The inauguration was attended by Ambassador, Mr. Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, the Consul General of Greece in Istanbul, Mr. Vasileios Bornovas, the Secretary General of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, faithful from Istanbul, as well as pilgrim groups from abroad.
The President of SAE had the opportunity to talk with the Ecumenical Patriarch, conveying, once more, the respect and support of Hellenism Worldwide.
