During the meeting with the Member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Mr. Ivan Savvidi the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew declared the upcoming liturgy in the Monastery Panagia Sumela (Trabzon, Turkey) to be «The most important historical event». The meeting took place on August 2, in the Residence of the Patriarch in Istanbul.
The Divine Liturgy planned for August 15, 2010 will be held by the Ecumenical Patriarch with the participation of the Bishop Podolski, Vicar of the Moscow Eparchy His Grace Tikhon (the Russian Orthodox Church) and the Metropolitan of Drama Pavlos (the Greek Orthodox Church). The Patriarch Liturgy on the territory of the Monastery will be held for the first time since the establishment of the Monastery in 386 AD.
Mr. Ivan Savvidi pointed out addressing to the Patriarch Bartholomew that dozens of thousands of people dream to visit at least once in a life this sacred place for all Orthodox people – the Monastery Panagia Sumela. « I am happy to be able to participate in the Patriarch liturgy together with pilgrims from different countries of the world that will be held with participation of Russian and Greek Orthodox Churches.
It is symbolic that the upcoming liturgy that is going to be a milestone event in the togetherness of all Orthodox Christians will be held on the Holy Land of Sumela Monastery», he said.
