“The period of religious wars is over. The time has come for dialogue, understanding and finding common decisions, the implementation of which will result in the spiritual stabilization of man”, said the Member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, Ivan Savvidi during his speech at the 17th General Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy in Yerevan, Armenia.
Mr. Savvidi also stated that “representatives of all religions must find a single formula for the stabilization of peace worldwide” whilst he thanked the administration of the Parliamentary Assembly, the governments of Turkey, Greece and Russia, Russian and Greek Orthodox Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople for their contribution towards the celebration of Divine Liturgy at the Monastery of Panagia Sumela on August 15th by the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew.
“This is not a simple Divine Liturgy. We are turning a new page in the history of Orthodox people. We are entering a new era, the era of humanitarian values. Possibly the liturgy will be the first step towards open dialogue between religions”, stated among other things, Mr. Savvidi, and invited the delegation of the Interparliamentary Council to take part in the pilgrimage and Divine Liturgy at the Monastery of Panagia Sumela in Pontus on the 15th of August.
