Ivan Savvides, Member of the Russian Duma, expressed towards the Ecumenical Patriarch Batholomew his indescribable pleasure and gratitude for the HolyLiturgy which will be celebrated at the historical Monastery of Panagia Sumela in Trabzon by the Ecumenical Patriarch.
The Patriarch expressed his pleasure for the fact that the Divine Liturgy will be celebrated in the Sumela Monastery and did not omit the fact that, as in Cappadokia, the the Divine Liturgy will be purely for pilgrimage purposes and that there is no space for political and other relevant social events. For this purpose it is recommended by the Patriarchate to refrain from any sort of action which could overshadow the religious character of this historical event.
A committee is already underway by the Patriarchate, which will travel to Trabzon to take care of the organizational aspects of this historical day.
It is important to note that the authorization of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the celebration of Divine Liturgy once per year in the historical Monastery is a result of oral and written communications of the Ecumenical Patriarch with Minister Ertugrul Gunay since last year.
