“Alexandria fare you well…” This was the title of an exquisite event organized last night at the hall of the Literary Association “Parnassus”, the Greek-Egyptian Friendship League and the Alexandria Averoff High School Alumni Association.
It was a wonderful evening, organized on the occasion of the town twinning of three historical Municipalities of Macedonia – Dion, Vergina, and Pella – with the Greek Community of Alexandria, Egypt.
Keynote speaker was the architect and director, Nikos Sophianos, initiator of this outstanding town twinning. The main events for this initiative will be held by the end of this summer at the Ancient Theatre of Dion and the Library of Alexandria.
The event took place in a crowded hall, filled with an enthusiastic audience. Highlight of the night was when the Mayor of Dion, Grigoris Papachristos stepped on the podium, who spoke of a realization of a dream and shared the greetings from his colleagues, the Mayors of Pella and Vergina.
The event was also highlighted by the presence of Mr. Spyros Kamalakis, Lord of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, Mr. Andreas Zaimis, former minister and President of the “Greek Friends of the Library of Alexandria”, Mr. Stefanos Tamvakis, President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad and honorary president of the Greek Community of Alexandria, who travelled all the way from Alexandria to Athens, to attend the event.
Professor and writer, Efthimios Soulogiannis was also present in the event, as well as Dr. Tarek Radwan, cultural attaché of the Egyptian Embassy, Mr. Vassilis Vagis, representative of the Greek Community of Alexandria and many distinguished guests.
