The SAE Europe Region Youth Coordinating Committee held a two-day meeting in Frankfurt at the initiative of Network Coordinator Costas Simeonidis.
The Coordinating Committee was briefed by Regional Coordinator Giorgos Amarantidis on the actions undertaken by the Office and the Coordinating Council on issues concerning the youth like the “work for the young” programme on the internet designed by the Region and scheduled to be launched in the fall of 2009. A special reference was made to the youth founding assembly meetings in Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany that took place with the support of SAE Europe Region. Within this framework, Amarantidis reminded the Regional Coordinating Council decision to offer tangible support to similar initiatives in other countries as well.
The Youth Coordinating Committee underlined the need for participation in all youth assembly meetings to be briefed on SAE’s actions and record youth problems and recommendations.
On his part, the Youth Network Coordinator briefed the participants on the recent SAE Board meeting in Thessaloniki, the contacts he had with other Regional Youth Coordinators and the decisions taken, with the most important one being to undertake an initiative for the return of the Parthenon Marbles.
The Coordinating Committee members proceeded to set up committees and presented the actions they have undertaken at local level.
During the proceedings they exchanged views on the meeting of the SAE Youth Coordinating Committees (December 2009). In support of the initiative for the return of the Parthenon Marbles they decided to hold a special one-day conference in London to raise public awareness and promote the issue.
They also decided to hold a two-day conference to promote youth participation in the Greek communities and other representative institutions.
