Ambassador to the U.S. Andreas Kakouris, today briefed senior staff of many of the most crucial foreign policymakers in the U.S. Congress on efforts to end the occupation and division of Cyprus. This briefing was organized by the Coordinated Effort of Hellenes (CEH) – a 26 year – old network of over 300 Greek – Americans who have close relationships with key U.S. policymakers across the country.
Over 45 key Congressional staff attended the 1.5 hour roundtable discussion. Those who accepted invitations to this working luncheon included the staff of:
13 of the 16 members of the House Europe Subcommittee, including the Chairman and Ranking Member; Just under half of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, including the Chairman and Ranking Member; The Speaker of the House and the Senate Majority Leader; The Chair of the Senate European Affairs Subcommittee; The Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee; The Chairman of the Helsinki Commission; The Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Appropriations Committee
Next month CEH will be organizing meetings on Capitol Hill and with key Administration officials around the 35th commemoration of the July 20 Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus.
