SAE Europe Regional Coordinator Giorgos Amarantidis met on Saturday, January 24, 2009 with representatives of appointed and not appointed expatriate educators at the SAE Europe Region offices in Frankfurt.
In the meeting, which was held in a very positive atmosphere, the educators briefed the SAE Coordinator on their problems and the solutions they propose.
The main demands of the not appointed expatriate educators are:
Immediate implementation of article 24, Law No. 2413. They suggested that any vacancies due to pregnancies, illnesses etc be covered by expatriates whose names are on the list put together after the latest EPYSDE announcement. Expatriates should be employed at the Coordinating Offices and the competent agencies of the Ministry of Education based on the same law.
Clear definition of the permanent resident abroad. The educators stressed that the present situation is not satisfactory considering that the permanent resident abroad status is defined differently in the case of military enlistment, admission to tertiary (AEI) and technological institutions (TEI) and taxation.
SAE Coordinator Amarantidis thanked the representatives for the constructive cooperation, characterized the conclusions of the meeting as useful and stressed that they will be conveyed to the Regional Coordinating Council to effectively tackle the problems faced by educators, students and schools abroad.
