The proceedings of the two-day conference on the teaching of the Greek language in Arab-speaking countries organized by Ambetios School and the Education Coordinator Office were launched in Cairo yesterday in the presence of SAE Africa/Near-Middle East Regional Coordinator Charis Gouvelis.
The formal opening was greeted on behalf of the Patriarchate of Alexandria by Bishop Nikodimos of Nitria who stressed that the teaching of the Greek language in the schools of Omogenia should be upgraded.
The efforts made toward this direction were underlined by Greek Community in Cairo Vice-President Nikolas Vadis.
On behalf of the ministry of education, Expatriate Education Director Anna Kretsa expressed satisfaction as regard the operation and infrastructure of the schools in Egypt.
The Egyptian students attending the conference were greeted by SAE Africa/Near-Middle East Regional Coordinator Charis Gouvelis who stressed the importance of bridges of friendship that contribute to the strengthening of the networks of the Friends of SAE and Omogenia, while he also referred to the cooperation launched between SAE and the Education Coordinator in North Africa and Middle East Andreas Karatzas.
The conference participants were greeted by a representative of the Cypriot Embassy in Cairo, while messages were read signed by Deputy Foreign Minister Theodoros Kassimis, responsible for Greeks Abroad, General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad General Director Ioannis Kyparissidis and PASOK MP Anna Diamantopoulou.
