Study proves common elements shared by Kalash language and Ancient Greek
Thessaloniki10.11.2008

The common elements shared by the language of the Kalash ethnic group in the Himalayas and Ancient Greek are included in a study prepared by Thessaloniki’s Aristotle University English Language Department assistant professor Elisavet Mela-Athanasopoulou.

The data collected will be presented during a three-day international conference on languages and traditions, focusing on languages close to extinction in Greece and other parts of the world, launched in Aristotle University on Monday in the presence of 45 Greek and foreign delegates.

The 15 Kalash villages are situated in the Himalayas and their population is roughly 3,000 people, according to the most recent census.
