The members of the Committee for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities in South Africa met ANC governing party President Jacob Zuma in Johannesburg.
Zuma addressing the representatives of the Greek, Italian and Portuguese communities, who attended the meeting “Safeguarding the future”, stressed that no South-African, black or white, should have doubts about their future and role in the country, adding that his party believes in a non-racial, non-sexist society.
The community representatives participating in the committee pledged, in cooperation with the new ANC leadership, to contribute to the solution of the problems plaguing the country.
Greek community representative and SAE Africa / Near and Middle East Regional Coordinator Charis Gouvelis called on the Greeks, particularly the young, to be active in the efforts made and rise to the occasion participating in the country’s rebirth and development.
Present in the meeting were, prominent Greek South-African lawyer George Bizos, Nelson Mandela’s attorney known for his efforts against racial discrimination, the Angola MPLA governing party General Secretary Norberto Dos Santos and distinguished South-African economist Azar Jamine.
