SAE Youth Network Founding Convention in the State of South Australia

Young Greek expatriates in South Australia proceeded with the establishment of a Youth Network in view of the SAE Oceania and Far East Youth Founding Convention in early October. The goal of the network, and of all such networks to be established by the end of 2008 worldwide in compliance with the SAE enabling law, is the more effective networking with World Hellenism, better cooperation between young generation Greek expatriates and Greek community institutions and preservation and promotion of the Greek-Australian identity, according to a statement issued by the SAE Oceania and Far East Region.

The issues that dominated in the Adelaide convention concerned the Greek language and culture, national issues, forging closer relations with Greece and future activities.

The meeting attended Greece’s Consul General in South Australia Dimitris Hatzopoulos, SAE Oceania and Far East Regional Coordinator George Angelopoulos and representatives of the Greek community.

Hatzopoulos stressed the importance of Greek language while on his part, Angelopoulos conveyed a message by SAE President Stefanos Tamvakis and underlined that the Greek State offers its unreserved support to initiatives undertaken by SAE.

The proceedings were completed with the election of the new coordinating body of the Youth Network of South Australia and Northern Territory: Demourtzidis Elias (President), Lampropoulos Peter (Vice-President), Kouvakis Chloe (Secretary), Privopoulos Liberty (2nd Secretary), Zambounis Elie (Treasurer), Demourzidis Nick, Demourzidis George, Darzanos Evelyn, Miaoudis Effie. Acting Members: Darzanos Sophia, Demourtzidis Athena and Takopoulos Eleni.
