The Greek expatriates and those residing abroad who own real estate in any of the 107 regions will have to declare it to the National Cadastre by December 30, 2008. Note that the ownership declaration submitted to the national cadastre is mandatory for all those owning real property in Greece and is not associated with the E9 form.
To better service Greek expatriates, it was decided that the ownership declaration will not have to be submitted by proxy and instead the Greek Embassy/Consulate authorities will issue a special authorization with proof of authenticity of signature free of charge.
The options available to the Greek expatriates are:
1. If the declaration is filled out, signed and submitted by a third party on behalf of the beneficiary, a special authorization will be necessary with certified signature authenticity provided by the Embassy/Consulate at their country of residence free of charge. Special authorization draft text can be found on the website: www.ktimatologio.gr.
2. By proxy authorized to administer their real estate in Greece.
3. By a third party with simple authorization. In this case, the declaration should be submitted by mail filled out and signed attached to the necessary documents. A representative will undertake to pay the fee set to any of the collaborating banks and submit the declaration to the responsible National Cadastre Office.
4. For the first time, the declaration can be submitted through the internet on the Ktimatologio S.A. website www.ktimatologio.gr. In this case, the necessary documents submitted with the declaration will be sent by mail to the responsible National Cadastre office and the fee set will be paid by credit card.
