The World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) Presiding Board met at noon today with LA.O.S President George Karatzaferis to brief him on SAE’s actions.
SAE President Stefanos Tamvakis thanked Karatzaferis for his party’s support to the organization’s work, particularly on the issue of the voting rights of the Greek expatriates, expressing the wish that the constructive cooperation will continue for the benefit of the Greeks worldwide.
On his part, the LA.O.S president pointed out:
“We trust in the Greeks abroad, their clear thinking and their love for the homeland. We have to realize that the Greeks who live in Greece are not enough to face the major challenges of today. We need the participation and contribution of the Greeks abroad.”
The LA.O.S president referred to the issue of the voting rights of the Greek expatriates and pledged to have an expatriate candidate on his party’s nationwide list as he did in 2004.
In the afternoon, the SAE board members depart for Istanbul where they will attend a liturgy on Wednesday on the occasion of the name day of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I who will receive them at Fanar on June 12.
The SAE board members will return to Thessaloniki and on June 13 will have a joint meeting with the Permanent Inter-Party Parliamentary Committee on Greeks Abroad: President Nikolaos Tsiartsionis, 1st Vice-President Grigoris Niotis, 2nd Vice-President Nikolaos Gatzis and Secretary Anastasios Kourakis.
In the morning of June 14, the SAE board will meet with Macedonia-Thrace Minister Margaritis Tzimas, Thessaloniki Prefect Panagiotis Psomiadis and Thessaloniki Mayor Vasilis Papageorgopoulos.
