Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa is visiting Johannesburg since May 15 on the occasion of the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Holy Metropolis of Johannesburg, the 100th anniversary of the Greek Communities of Johannesburg and Pretoria and the inauguration of the churches of St Nikolaos in Durban and the Assumption of Theotokos in Port Elizabeth.

The Patriarch was warmly received at the Johannesburg Airport by Metropolitan Seraphim of Johannesburg, Greek Ambassador Aristidis Sandis, Cypriot High Commissioner Argiros Antoniou, the ambassador of Egypt and the Greek consul general.

SAE Africa and Near/Middle East Regional Coordinating Council member Vasilis Magdalinos and SAE representatives in South Africa conveyed to the Patriarch the greetings of SAE Regional Coordinator Charis Gouvelis, currently in Canada under his identity as SAE vice-president.

Also present were, Federation of Greek Communities in South Africa former President Panagiotis Manikas and representatives of the Greek Communities.
