State Duma member Greek expatriate Ivan Savvidis was decorated with the medal of the Russian Federation for services to the country following a decree issued by Russian President Putin.
The decree reads that the medal is conferred to Savvidis for his services to the adoption of legislation, consolidation and development of the Russian state institutions.
The Order of Merit to the Country Class IV is the highest order of the Russian Federation. Conferred to the citizens of the Federation and foreigners for outstanding contribution to the development of Russian statehood, economy and strengthening of friendship between the Federation and other countries.
The 49-year-old Ivan Ignatievic Savvidis, born in Santa, Georgia, is a SAE Former Soviet Union Countries Regional Coordinator and since 2004 he is the president of the Federation of Greek Associations in Russia. He is elected to the State Duma since 2003. In his previous term he served as vice-president of the Budget and Tax Committee. He is a member of the Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs and coordinator of the friendship committee with the Greek Parliament.
