The convention of the Federation of Greek Community Associations of Russia was held in Rostov-na-Donu with the participation of 88 delegates representing 39 Greek communities. Ivan Savvidis, a state Duma deputy, was reelected federation president being the only candidate while 17 representatives were also elected as well as an assignee control committee.
Reviewing the activities undertaken over the last three year term, Savvidis stated that important steps were made in forming, developing and creating the Greek movement in Russia. He said that attention focused on the unity of the Greek community, the rebirth of the Orthodox Faith and the restoration of historical memory as well as on Greek education and culture issues. He once again expressed satisfaction for the establishment of a SAE Black Sea countries Region.
The convention attended Greece’s consul general to Novorossiysk Economou-Kamarinos, Federation of Greek Associations of Ukraine President Alexandra Prochenko-Pitsatzi, the representative of the Center of Black Sea Greeks in Thessaloniki and the SAE former Soviet Union countries Region Coordinating Council members.
Messages were sent by SAE President Stefanos Tamvakis, Federation of Hellenic Associations of Georgia President Kyriakos Iordanidis, the president of “Peloponnesus” Social Association of Hellenes in Belarus, the Greeks of Kyrgyzstan and others.
