Issues concerning the Greek community in SAE Africa, Near & Middle East Region were put on the table in the meetings Regional Coordinator Charis Gouvelis had in Athens with Greek government officials.
In a meeting with General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad General Director Ioannis Kyparrisidis and members of the secretariat they discussed SAE operation issues as well as issues concerning Greek community organizations.
Gouvelis discussed with education ministry Special Secretary Ismini Kriari, responsible for the education of young Greeks abroad, issues concerning the operation of Greek schools and the support of Greek Studies Departments in a number of universities in his Region (Egypt, Jordan, S. Africa and elsewhere).
The Ecumenical Patriarchate non governmental organization OECUMENICA proposals concerning the Region’s countries (Lebanon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Congo, S. Africa) were discussed by Gouvelis and the NGO general director within the framework of the cooperation between SAE and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Cooperation with the soon to be established SAE Network of Businessmen in S. Africa and other countries in the specific SAE Region was discussed in the meeting Gouvelis had with Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry General Secretary Alexandra Palli and Giorgos Gitsioudis, in charge of Public Relations. The likelihood of inter-state business and commerce meetings held with SAE’s cooperation was examined in the meeting Gouvelis had with the Ambassador of S. Africa to Athens, accompanied by Eftichia Xidia, in charge of the Greek Embassy to Pretoria Office for Economic and Commercial Affairs.
Proposals for cultural cooperation with the Centre for European Constitutional Law – Themistokles and Dimitrios Tsatsos Foundation (CECL) and the municipality of Athens were also considered in meetings with their representatives.
