Deputy Foreign Minister Theodoros Kassimis received yesterday (Tuesday) former Soviet Union countries Regional Coordinator for SAE, Ivan Savvidis, who donated a 200,000-euro check for the relief of fire victims.

Present in the meeting, held at the foreign ministry in Athens, was Committee on Greek-Russian Friendship President MP Simos Kedikoglou.

The deputy foreign minister thanked Savvidis on behalf of the Greek State for this moving gesture and added that he will deliver the check to Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis to be deposited to the special relief fund set up for the fire victims. He also expressed certainty that support from the Greeks abroad will continue to pour in.

Savvidis conveyed the Greek community’s concern over the unprecedented disaster and underlined the mass mobilization in support of the victims, stressing that as soon as he returns to Russia he will meet with Russian businessmen of Greek descent with the purpose of raising more funds.
