Satisfaction for the fact that the Greek government will take under consideration the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) recommendations before finalizing the draft law on the Overseas Greeks voting rights, was expressed by SAE President Stefanos Tamvakis following a communication he had yesterday with Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Deputy Foreign Minister Theodoros Kassimis.
The seven SAE Regions and the local Coordinating Councils will also present their views on the issue.
“Overseas Greeks are entitled to and is imperative to present their proposals on an issue that concerns them directly such as exercising their right to vote in Greek national elections from their countries of residence. SAE has to exercise its advisory and consultative role to the Greek State on this very important issue which is a long-standing demand by the majority of the Greeks living abroad”, Tamvakis stressed.
According to an announcement by the World Council of Hellenes Abroad president “the SAE Regional Coordinators in all five continents are already actively involved in the recording of the dominant views on the issue while the imminent study of the draft law is expected to give positive results soon”.
